Viticulture

After the property was mapped and analyzed and careful research conducted a plan for replanting was made. The plan coupled an ideal combination of rootstock, varietal clone, optimum spacing, and optimum training method.

The vines are trained in the ancient gobelet form to optimize sun exposure and grape quality. The vineyard has been largely replanted in a dense spacing of 2,700 to 4,050 vines per acre. This is 5 to 8 times the density of vines as before. The intent of this dense planting is to reduce the amount of crop each vine must bear and ripen. Fewer grape clusters means less stress on the grapevine; and to a vine living on these difficult hillside soils, it means more strength to ripen the fruit naturally.
