In 1992, Jaqui Safra purchased the Spring Mountain Vineyard estate, which included a small collection of Cabernet Sauvignon vintages from the 1970s and 1980s, bottled under the distinctive, historic label. Mr. Safra, a connoisseur and collector of first growth Bordeaux, was keen to make from his mountainside estate a wine to equal the Bordeaux benchmark. Over time, he began to see the aging potential of his mountain-grown wines and the incomparable beauty and elegance he so valued in fine old Bordeaux. In 2000, he named his signature wine Elivette, an artful blend of the classic red Bordeaux varieties that would be the ultimate expression of both the estate and the vintage.
Developing a great wine library has always been part of our philosophy. For over twenty years, Spring Mountain Vineyard has held back a number of cases from every release. Elivette, Cabernet and Syrah, along with limited bottlings of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, have been carefully aged in optimal mountain cave conditions. This has created a collection of perfectly cellared, rare vintages that is unparalleled in Napa Valley, including Cabernets from 1979, 1987 and 1998. These wines offer a taste of our rich history and the opportunity to add to your collection at the stage of their evolution that best suits your palate.
